Author: ChemViews

The scientist we are looking for this time was known for both scientific achievements and his or her smoking habits. He or she made a major contribution to understanding organic reactions, but also worked on organic synthesis with overwhelming success.

The chemist in question lost his or her father to the influenza epidemic of 1918, and grew up in less-than-affluent circumstances, yet excelled academically. Our scientist showed an early interest in chemistry, experimented in his or her home laboratory as early as age twelve, and continued all through highschool.
