With around 30,000 members, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) is one of the largest chemical societies in the world. The journal Nachrichten aus der Chemie (News from Chemistry) is one of the most important instruments for the cohesion of members and organs of the GDCh. It reports on science, economy, markets and society and documents changes at universities and in the chemical industry as well as developments in academic and non-academic job profiles in chemistry.

The editorial team produces a monthly edition of Nachrichten aus der Chemie in print and online, as well as the GDCh Newsletter and other GDCh journals.

For the editorial office of Nachrichten aus der Chemie, we are looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) editor as of 1 July 2024.

 

Online Editor (m/f/d)

We are looking for a communicative personality who takes into account the interests of readers and society and implements them in a journalistically independent manner, and who is particularly competent in designing the digital news world.

 

This is your job:

  • You will work with the editorial team to identify topics for our readership – from across the world of chemistry, industry, society and academia – and provide editorial support to authors.
  • You will write and produce content for both printed and digital publications.
  • You will design, write and layout the GDCh newsletter.
  • You will plan and design the social media presence of Nachrichten aus der Chemie.

 

What to bring:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and good knowledge of German.
    You edit reliably, research carefully and write in a target-group-oriented manner.
  • Professional journalistic experience in (online) editorial offices, through freelance work in the media and/or in public relations.
  • High affinity for digital media and experience in dealing with social media.
  • Successfully completed studies in the field of digital media, online editing, journalism, media studies, PR, marketing, etc. or in a scientific subject.
