Bimetallic Bi‐Ni oxides over carbide supports for oxidative dehydrogenation of n ‐butane: Experimental and kinetic modelling

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Omer Elmutasim, Gazali Tanimu, Isam H. Aljundi, Sulaiman Al‐Khattaf

Abstract n‐butane oxidative dehydrogenation was studied over Bi‐Ni/TiC, Bi‐Ni/SiC, Bi‐Ni/Silicalite‐1, and unsupported Bi‐Ni catalyst. The co‐impregnation technique was followed, with fixed 0.30 and 0.20 g/g for Bi and Ni respectively. The physico‐chemical properties were measured by means of BET, XRD, CO2/NH3‐TPD, and H2‐TPR techniques. The catalytic test results revealed that bimetallic Bi‐Ni/TiC catalyst exhibited the...

Influence of alkali metal (Li and Cs) addition to Mo 2 N catalyst for CO hydrogenation to hydrocarbons and oxygenates

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Sharif F. Zaman, Nagaraju Pasupulety, Abdulrahim A. Al‐Zahrani, Muhammad A. Daous, Hafedh Driss, Saad S. Al‐Shahrani, Lachezar Petrov

Abstract The aim of this work is to understand the catalytic behaviour of Li and Cs promoted Mo2N for CO hydrogenation to hydrocarbons and oxygenates at the reaction conditions 275–325 °C, 7 MPa, and 30 000 h−1 GHSV. Molybdenum nitrides were synthesized via temperature programmed treatment of ammonium heptamolybdate (AHM) and alkali metal (AM) precursors under continuous gaseous ammonia flow. Unpromoted Mo2N and AM‐Mo2N catalysts were...

Gaseous ozone decomposition over high silica zeolitic frameworks

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Nicolas Brodu, Marie‐Hélène Manero, Caroline Andriantsiferana, Jean‐Stéphane Pic, Héctor Valdés

Abstract For several decades, it has been known that ozone emissions are harmful to humans, plants, and animals. Heterogeneous catalytic decomposition is an efficient process for removing ozone from air. This study examines the effect of the zeolite's framework and pore width on efficiency for decomposing gaseous ozone. Four highly hydrophobic zeolites are used: a large cavity zeolite (Faujasite/H‐FAU), a...

Performance evaluation of fixed‐bed, millistructured, and metallic foam reactor channels for CO 2 methanation

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Alain Bengaouer, Julien Ducamp, Isabelle Champon, Rasmey Try

Abstract Power‐to‐gas technologies, combining hydrogen produced by water electrolysis with carbon dioxide to produce substitute natural gas (SNG), can support the increased penetration of renewable electricity sources. However, the technical and economic feasibility of these technologies requires the conversion efficiency of the whole process, including the methanation step. This paper provides an experimental...

Role of mineral flotation technology in improving bitumen extraction from mined Athabasca oil sands: I. Flotation chemistry of water‐based oil sand extraction

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Joe Zhou, Haihong Li, Liyan Zhao, Ross Chow

Abstract The role of surface hydrophobicity in water‐based oil sand extraction is examined from the perspective of mineral flotation separation. Although anionic carboxylates (sulphonates) released from bitumen are helpful for charging bitumen and liberating bitumen from sand grains, their presence in oil sand slurries tends to make bitumen and bubbles less hydrophobic. In addition, solid hydrophobization under...

Effect of magnetic field on the ammonia‐based CO 2 absorption process

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Yu Zhang, Jianmin Gao, Dongdong Feng, Qian Du, Shaohua Wu

Abstract The performance of ammonia‐based CO2 absorption under static magnetic field conditions was discussed. The removal efficiency of CO2, CO2 load, and absorption capacities were studied using a bubble reactor system. The CO2 removal efficiencies, CO2 load, and absorption capacity under static magnetic field conditions were calculated at four kinds of different operating conditions, which included CO2 concentration in flue gas, gas flow...

Interactions of Ascorbic Acid with Satraplatin and its trans Analog JM576: DFT Computational Study

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Filip Šebesta, Jaroslav V. Burda

Knowledge of the mechanisms for the reduction of PtIV anticancer prodrugs is of great importance, since the reduction process is considered as a necessary step for their activation. Therefore, in this study, we investigate the reduction of satraplatin {JM216, cis,trans,cis‐[PtCl2(OAc)2(cha)(NH3)], cha = cyclohexylamine} by ascorbic acid (AA) where proton‐assisted electron‐transfer and outer‐sphere electron‐transfer mechanisms are employed. Also, the...

Structural Characterization of a Fluorido‐Amide of Niobium, and Facile CO 2 Incorporation Affording a Fluorido‐Carbamate

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Giulio Bresciani, Marco Bortoluzzi, Stefano Zacchini, Fabio Marchetti, Guido Pampaloni

We have prepared the first niobium(V) compounds bearing fluorido and monodentate amido ligands (1a–c), which are tetranuclear cations, by the reaction between NbF5 and Me3SiNMe2 in the presence of a chloride (or bromide) source. The fluorido/carbamato derivative NbF2(O2CNMe2)3 (2) was obtained in good yield from the reaction of NbF5 and Me3SiNMe2 in the presence of carbon dioxide at 1 atm pressure and ambient temperature. All the products were characterized by analytical ...

Exploring additivity effects of double mutations on the binding affinity of protein‐protein complexes

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Sherlyn Jemimah, M. Michael Gromiha

Abstract Additivity in binding affinity of protein‐protein complexes refers to the change in free energy of binding (ΔΔGbind) for double (or multiple) mutations which is approximately equal to the sum of their corresponding single mutation ΔΔGbind values. In this study, we have explored the additivity effect of double mutants, which shows a linear relationship between the binding affinity of double and sum of single mutants with a correlation of 0.90....

Preparation and performance of poly (lactic acid)/fulvic acid benzhydrazide composites

Published: 16 February 2018

Author(s): Panyu Liu, Weijun Zhen, Shengzhen Bian, Xuefeng Wang

Abstract Fulvic acid (FA) was reacted with benzhydrazide to obtain the amide derivative of fulvic acid benzhydrazide (FA‐BH). The structure of FA‐BH was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Poly (lactic acid)/fulvic acid benzhydrazide (PLA‐FA‐BH) composites were prepared by melt blending. Thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy,...
