C(sp 3 )−H Bond Activation by Vinylidene Gold(I) Complexes: A Concerted Asynchronous or Stepwise Process?

Abstract A detailed analysis of the C(sp3)−H activation process by vinylidene AuI complexes is described based on an intrinsic bond orbital analysis. Based on our analysis this event can be divided into three phases: (i) hydride transfer, (ii) C−C bond formation, and (iii) σ to π rearrangement of the lone pair coordinated to Au. Abstract We have successfully demonstrated solar water splitting using a newly fabricated photoelectrochemical system with a Pt‐loaded SiC photocathode, a CoOx‐loaded BiVO4 photoanode, and a perovskite solar cell. Detection of the evolved H2 and O2 with a 100 % Faradaic efficiency indicates that the observed photocurrent was used for water splitting. The solar‐to‐hydrogen (STH) efficiency was 0.55 % under no additional bias conditions. ...
