Flow dynamic in a packed bed filled with Ni‐Al2O3 porous catalyst: Experimental and numerical approach

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Dmitry Pashchenko

Abstract Numerical simulations and experiments have been carried out to explore the effect of particle shapes on the pressure drop and the loss factor in a packed fixed bed filled with a porous catalyst. The packed bed is presented by the Ni‐Al2O3 catalyst of the different shapes. The commercial program ANSYS Fluent is used for the analysis; more than 20 mln cells are used for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. The catalyst particles were set as a porous medium with the viscous...

Optimal coupling of waste and concentrated solar for the constant production of electricity over a year

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Ester Fuente, Mariano Martín

Abstract In this article, a biogas‐based Brayton cycle is integrated with a concentrated solar power facility. The gas turbine hot flue gas and the molten salts are used to generate steam for the regenerative Rankine cycle. The process model is solved as a nonlinear optimization problem within a multiperiod scheme to decide on the contribution of the energy resources and the operating conditions of the facility to meet a certain demand of power over a year mitigating the absence of solar...

Photoredox‐Coupled F‐Nucleophilic Addition: Allylation of gem‐Difluoroalkenes

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Haidong Liu, Liang Ge, Ding‐Xing Wang, Nan Chen, Chao Feng

Abstract A novel strategy for the expedient construction of CF3‐embeded tertiary/quarternary carbon centers was developed by taking advantage of photoredox catalysis. Thanks to a key step of single‐electron oxidation, electron‐rich gem‐difluoroalkenes, which otherwise are essentially reluctant towards F‐nucleoplilic addition, now readily participate in this fluoroallylation reaction. Furthermore, this strategy provides an elegant example for the generation, as well as functionalization, of...

Perylene Diimide‐Based Electron‐Transporting Material for Perovskite Solar Cells with Undoped Poly(3‐hexylthiophene) as Hole‐Transporting Material

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Ding Zou, Fafu Yang, Qixin Zhuang, Mingguang Zhu, Yunxiang Chen, Guofeng You, Zhenghuan Lin, Hongyu Zhen, Qidan Ling

Abstract Perylene diimide‐based small molecules are widely used as intermediates of liquid crystals, owing to their high planarity and electron mobility. In this study, tetrachloroperylene diimide (TCl‐PDI) was used as a small‐molecule replacement for TiO2 as electron‐transporting material (ETM) for planar perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). Among hole‐transporting materials (HTMs) for PVSCs, poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) gives the devices the highest stability and reproducibility. Therefore,...

Photocatalytic Reverse Semi‐Combustion Driven by Ionic Liquids

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Muhammad I. Qadir, Marcileia Zanatta, Eduarda S. Gil, Hubert K. Stassen, Paulo Gonçalves, Brenno A. D. Neto, Paulo E. N. de Souza, Jairton Dupont

Abstract The simple photolysis of CO2 in aqueous solutions to generate CO and/or hydrocarbons and derivatives in the presence of a catalyst is considered to be a clean and efficient approach for utilizing CO2 as a C1 building block. Despite the huge efforts dedicated to this transformation using either semiconductors or homogeneous catalysts, only small improvements of the catalytic activity have been achieved so far. This article reports that simple aqueous solutions of organic...

Efficient and Hole‐Transporting‐Layer‐Free CsPbI2Br Planar Heterojunction Perovskite Solar Cells through Rubidium Passivation

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Yixin Guo, Fei Zhao, Jiahua Tao, Jinchun Jiang, Jungang Zhang, Jianping Yang, Zhigao Hu, Junhao Chu

Abstract Recently, inorganic perovskite CsPbI2Br has gained much attention for photovoltaic applications owing to its excellent thermal stability. However, low device performance and high open‐voltage loss, which are the result of its intrinsic trap states, are hindering its progress. Herein, planar CsPbI2Br solar cells with enhanced performance and stability were demonstrated by incorporating rubidium (Rb) cations. The Rb‐doped CsPbI2Br film exhibited excellent crystallinity, pinhole‐free...

Utilization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste for preparing disodium terephthalate and its application in a solid polymer electrolyte

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Nazrul Haq, Faiyaz Shakeel, Fars K. Alanazi, Hamid Shaikh, Idriss Bedja, Ravindra Kumar Gupta

ABSTRACT A widespread application and nonbiodegradability of the poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) have created a huge amount of waste, which is imposing a serious life‐threatening environmental problem. In this study, we have utilized the PET waste to synthesize disodium terephthalate (DST), an organic salt having two Na+ ions per molecule. The purity of the DST phase was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffractometry (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). A...

First‐Principles Simulations for Morphology and Structural Evolutions of Catalysts in Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Ye‐Fei Li

Abstract Developing a robust catalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction is the major challenge in the field of renewable energy. The difficulty comes from not only the low intrinsic activity, but also the structural uncertainty of catalysts under the operating conditions. Therefore, finding the relationship between structural evolution and the OER activity is urgently required. At present, first‐principles simulations have become a powerful tool to understand the mechanism of the OER at the...

Cage–ladder‐structure, phosphorus‐containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquinoxanes as promising reactive‐type flame retardants for epoxy resin

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Shengnan Li, Xiaojuan Zhao, Xinghua Liu, Xin Yang, Ran Yu, Ying Zhang, Wei Huang, Kuilin Deng

ABSTRACT We synthesized a novel cage–ladder‐structure, phosphorus‐containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquinoxane (CLEP–DOPO–POSS) via the hydrolytic condensation of 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO)–vinyl trimethoxysilane (VTMS) with 2‐(3,4‐epoxycyclohexyl) ethyl trimethoxysilane and then incorporated it into epoxy resins (EPs) in different ratios with thermal curing technology. The structure of CLEP–DOPO–POSS was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,...

Supported Co–Re Bimetallic Catalysts with Different Structures as Efficient Catalysts for Hydrogenation of Citral

Published: 13 February 2019

Author(s): Xin Di, Gwendoline Lafaye, Catherine Especel, Florence Epron, Ji Qi, Chuang Li, Changhai Liang

Abstract Bimetallic Co–Re/TiO2 catalysts were developed for efficient citral hydrogenation. Bimetallic catalysts were prepared by co‐impregnation (CI), successive‐impregnation (SI), and surface redox method (SR). The arrangement between the Co and Re species on these systems was fully characterized using several techniques (TEM–energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, H2 temperature‐programmed reduction, temperature‐programmed desorption, XRD, CO FTIR spectroscopy, model reaction of cyclohexane...
