Influence of Common Anions on the Coordination of Metal Cations in Polyalcohols

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Johannes Teichert, Michael Ruck

Polyalcohols (polyols), such as ethylene glycol, have mild reducing ability. They are used in the so‐called polyol process to produce metallic nanoparticles of various kinds. In these syntheses, the effective reduction potential of the polyol strongly depends on the presence of other anions. Those anions compete against the polyol molecules for the direct bonding to the metal cations. As an indicator for the coordination behavior of polyols, we crystallized and structurally characterized 19...

Mahkota Dewa Subcritical Water Extraction Process: Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Nurmaryam Aini Hashim, Siti Kholijah Abdul Mudalip, Noorlisa Harun, Rohaida Che Man, Siti Zubaidah Sulaiman, Zatul Iffah Mohd Arshad, Shalyda M. Shaarani, Jannatul Azmir

Abstract Subcritical water extraction and molecular dynamics simulation were performed to investigate mangiferin and antioxidant extraction from Mahkota Dewa fruits at different operating temperatures. The mangiferin yield and antioxidant activity were analyzed using high‐performance liquid chromatography and 2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl assay method, respectively. The diffusivity and intermolecular interactions were determined by mean squared displacement (MSD) and radial distribution function...

Mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, and microstructure of Sr modified Al–9.2Mg–0.7Mn alloys

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Peng Zhang, Weijun Xia, Hongge Yan, Jihua Chen, Bin Su, Xinyu Li, Xinlei Li

Abstract The influence of strontium (Sr) additions in the form of Mg–Sr master alloys from 0 to 0.6 wt% on the mechanical properties, corrosive nature, and microstructure of Al–9.2Mg–0.7Mn alloys is investigated. The material is studied in a fully annealed (O‐temper) and a sensitizing treatment at 150°C for 7 days. Here we demonstrate that there will be a new phase which might be (Al, Mg)17Sr2 formed in the as‐cast microstructure. When the Sr content is 0.2 wt%, under the premise that the...

The Presence of Pulses within a Meal can Alter Fat‐Soluble Vitamin Bioavailability

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Marielle Margier, Tiffany Antoine, Aurélie Siriaco, Marion Nowicki, Charlotte Halimi, Matthieu Maillot, Stéphane Georgé, Emmanuelle Reboul

Scope It is widely advised to increase pulse consumption. However, pulses are rich in molecules displaying lipid‐lowering properties, including fibers, phytates, saponins, and tannins. The effects of pulses on fat‐soluble vitamin bioavailability were thus explored. Methods Vitamin A (β‐carotene and retinyl palmitate), vitamin E (α‐tocopherol), vitamin D (cholecalciferol), and vitamin K (phylloquinone) bioaccessibility was evaluated by assessing micellarization after in vitro digestion of meals...

Poutanen, Markku J Savolainen, Ursula Schwab, Peter Arner, Matti Uusitupa, Stine M. Ulven

Scope To explore the effect of a healthy Nordic diet on the global transcriptome profile in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of subjects with metabolic syndrome. Methods and results Subjects with metabolic syndrome undergo a 18/24 week randomized intervention study comparing an isocaloric healthy Nordic diet with an average habitual Nordic diet served as control (SYSDIET study). Altogether, 68 participants are included. PBMCs are obtained before and after intervention and total RNA...

Organic Electrosynthesis as a New Facile and Green Method for One‐pot Synthesis of Nanosized Particles of Octahydro‐imidazo[1,2‐a]quinolin‐6‐one Derivatives via a Multicomponent Reaction

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Rana Sayyar, Somayeh Makarem, Behrooz Mirza

Organic electrosynthesis as a new facile and green method was applied for one‐pot synthesis of octahydro‐imidazo[1,2‐a]quinolin‐6‐one derivatives, via a three component condensation of a dimedone, an aldehyde and 2‐(nitromethylene)imidazolidine in propanol in an undivided cell in the presence of sodium bromide as an electrolyte at room temperature. In this study, the anion of dimedone that was produced on the cathode reacted with aromatic aldehydes through the Knoevenagel reaction and then the...

Characteristics of aerosol pollution in the vicinity of an oil refinery near Rijeka, Croatia

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Marija Čargonja, Darko Mekterović, Diana Mance, Gordana Žauhar, Iva Bogdanović Radović, Ivana Zamboni

Fine aerosol pollution is one of the most important factors in air pollution monitoring. Industrial production often represents significant source of aerosol pollution in surrounding areas, and therefore, it is important to understand its impact on air quality. In order to investigate contribution coming from the oil refinery to air pollution, PM2.5 (particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter smaller than 2.5 μm) samples were collected in the vicinity of an oil refinery during the 1‐year...

Can biofuel policies reduce uncertainty and increase agricultural yields through stimulating investments?

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Zoltán Szabó

Abstract As history shows, the yield gap (the difference between actual and achievable yields) will not necessarily close automatically. Investments in agricultural technologies may be key. Price volatility is fundamental to investment. Price volatility has increased in agriculture in the past decade, leading to higher risks for potential investments. Some of these increased risks may be offset by the certainty offered by credible policies. The US experience indicates that ethanol policy may...

Review of highly charged ion production with ECR ion source and the future opportunities for HCI physics

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): L. Sun, H.W. Zhao, W. Lu, J.W. Guo, Y. Yang, H. Jia, L. Lu, W. Wu

In recent years, there is very intense worldwide research and development work on electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS). Remarkable progress represented by the third generation superconducting ECRIS has been made with regards of intense highly charged ion beam production such as 600 eμA Ar16+, 10 eμA Ar18+, and hundreds of enA He‐like Kr34+. A low energy heavy ion platform named Low Energy heavy ion Accelerator Facility (LEAF) that features a next generation 45 GHz ECRIS, a 300 kV...
