Synthesis of Spirocyclic β‐ and γ‐Sultams by One‐Pot Reductive Cyclization of Cyanoalkylsulfonyl Fluorides

One‐pot intramolecular cyclization of novel sp3‐enriched cyanoalkylsulfonyl fluorides into spirocyclic β‐ or γ‐sultams is disclosed. The method relies on nitrile group reduction followed by sulfonylation of amino group thus formed upon mild conditions (NaBH4, NiCl2·6H2O in MeOH). Cyclization proceeds smoothly with considerable efficiency (48–84 %, 10 examples) on up to 30 g scale. La3B6O13(OH): The First Acentric High‐Pressure Borate Displaying Edge‐Sharing BO4 Tetrahedra

Abstract La3B6O13(OH) was obtained by a high‐pressure/high‐temperature experiment at 6 GPa and 1673 K. The compound crystallizes in the space group P21 (no. 4) with the lattice parameters a=4.785(2), b=12.880(4), c=7.433(3) Å, and β=90.36(10)°, and is built up of corner‐ as well as edge‐sharing BO4 tetrahedra. Synthetic Studies towards CH‐Diazomethane Sulfonamides: a Novel Type of Diazo Reagents

Preparation of CH‐diazomethane sulfonamides has been developed for the first time. Their utility as a new type of diazo reagents was showcased in cycloaddition reactions with electron‐deficient alkynes and β‐nitro styrenes which delivered medicinally important pyrazole‐3‐sulfonamides in good to excellent yields.

Abstract Although integral to remote marine atmospheric sulfur chemistry, the reaction between methylsulfinyl radical (CH3SO) and ozone poses challenges to theoretical treatments. The lone theoretical study on this reaction reported an unphysically large barrier of 66 kcal mol−1 for abstraction of an oxygen atom from O3 by CH3SO. A furfuryl cation induced three‐component thioesterification reaction between thiols, 5‐bromo‐2‐furylcarbinols and azides is reported. Abstract The chromium(III) complex [CrIII(ddpd)2]3+ (molecular ruby; ddpd=N,N′‐dimethyl‐N,N′‐dipyridine‐2‐yl‐pyridine‐2,6‐diamine) is reduced to the genuine chromium(II) complex [CrII(ddpd)2]2+ with d4 electron configuration.
