2020 100 Years Macromolecular Chemistry

The field of macromolecular science celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Within this century, polymers have greatly changed human life, based on the pioneering macromolecular hypothesis of Hermann Staudinger published in Berichte der deutschen chemischen Gesellschaft in June 1920. The German Chemical Society (GDCh) Division Macromolecular Chemistry has initiated an international symposium aligned with several activities organized by societies and publishers around the “Year of Polymers”. Wiley is celebrating and supporting this by initiating a range of activities and promotions throughout the year.

Journal of Polymer Science

From January 2020, the Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry and Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics will be published as one journal, the Journal of Polymer Science.

The Journal of Polymer Science will focus on a broad range of topics in polymer science and will continue to report the dynamic developments in both polymer chemistry and physics (formerly Parts A and B). Combining the two journals under one title will enable us to convey more of the latest progress in polymers and publish more total papers than the previously separated titles, as barriers in scope will be removed to welcome all research from this truly multidisciplinary field.

Angewandte Chemie Special Collection

The journals Advanced Materials, Advanced Healthcare Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, and Angewandte Chemie are helping to celebrate this anniversary by looking at past and present achievements published in all of our journals. We will cover the subject with four Special Collections, updated throughout the year, that highlight the following facets of polymer science: Technology, Healthcare, Sustainability, and Chemistry.

The Angewandte Chemie Special Collection focusses on milestones in the synthesis and characterization of polymers over the years, along with recent breakthroughs.

Editor’s quote: "I am glad to contribute to this celebration with this Special Collection. Here are articles on the development of polymers from a wide range of our journals"- Stephen Horner, PhD.
