N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Iron Silyl Hydride Complexes

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Samuel Quintero‐Duque, Haoquan Li, Luis C. Misal Castro, Vincent Dorcet, Thierry Roisnel, Eric Clot, Mary Grellier, Jean‐Baptiste Sortais, Christophe Darcel

Abstract Reaction of N‐heterocyclic carbene iron(0) tetracarbonyl complexes with hydrosilanes (triphenylsilane, methyldiphenylsilane and diphenylsilane) under UV irradiation (350 nm) afforded the octahedral N‐heterocyclic carbene iron(II) silyl hydride complexes in yields up to 95 %, resulting from the oxidative addition of the hydrosilane. Eight iron silyl hydrides were obtained and characterized by NMR and X‐ray diffraction analysis....

Uncovering the 3 D Structure of Combustion‐Synthesized Noble Metal‐Ceria Nanocatalysts

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Lucian Roiban, Siddardha Koneti, Franck Morfin, Thanh‐Son Nguyen, Pascale Mascunan, Mimoun Aouine, Thierry Epicier, Laurent Piccolo

Abstract With its unique redox properties, ceria is an oxide with a range of applications, including automotive catalytic converters, which consist of platinum‐group metal nanoparticles on ceria‐containing supports. In this work, the 3 D architecture of a ceria‐based material synthesized by the widely employed glycine‐nitrate solution combustion method is revealed for the first time. Together with N2 adsorption volumetry, scanning...

Structural and Computational Investigation of Intramolecular N···H Interactions in α‐ and β‐Fluorinated 7‐Azaindoline Amides

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Lennart Brewitz, Hidetoshi Noda, Naoya Kumagai, Masakatsu Shibasaki

Novel fluorinated N1‐acylated 7‐azaindolines have been synthesized and their conformations analyzed by X‐ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy: Unusual intramolecular interactions between the 7‐nitrogen and amide α‐hydrogen atoms were identified. The strength of these interactions correlate with the electron‐withdrawing character of the amide α substituents. A combination of experimental and computational approaches revealed a significant...

Mechanisms of Two‐Electron versus Four‐Electron Reduction of Dioxygen Catalyzed by Earth‐Abundant Metal Complexes

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Shunichi Fukuzumi, Yong‐Min Lee, Wonwoo Nam

Abstract The two‐electron reduction of dioxygen with two protons produces hydrogen peroxide, which is directly used as a liquid fuel in hydrogen peroxide fuel cells, whereas the four‐electron reduction of dioxygen is combined with the two‐electron oxidation of hydrogen in hydrogen fuel cells. Platinum (Pt)‐based nanocomposites are the most efficient commercial electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the...

Catalytic Asymmetric Reactions Involving the Seven‐Membered Cyclic Imine Moieties Present in Dibenzo[ b , f ][1,4]oxazepines

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Lode De Munck, Carlos Vila, José R. Pedro

The dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepine scaffold is a privileged structure in medicinal chemistry that displays a wide variety of biological and pharmacological activities. However, catalytic asymmetric methodologies for the synthesis of chiral dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepine derivatives are scarce in the literature. This microreview presents an overview of enantioselective reactions in which these cyclic seven‐membered imines are used as electrophiles, including...

Considerations of functional fluoropolymer structure in the design of acrylic–fluorine hybrid PSAs: Graft versus telechelic cooligomers

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Yu Wang, Shuai Sun, Ning Li, Yongping Bai, Xiaoqiang Zheng

ABSTRACT The objectives of this present article are to design and compare novel acrylic‐fluorine networks as the replacement of fluorinated polyacylate for adhesives application. Firstly, two effective strategies have been developed to achieve functional poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) copolymers based on commercial fluoropolymers. The first approach extensively involved the facile chemical degradation of commercial poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) copolymers to obtain...

Long‐term stable hydrophilic surface modification of poly(ether ether ketone) via the multilayered chemical grafting method

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Kyung Hak Kim, Sang Hyuk Im, Bum Jun Park

ABSTRACT The aging phenomena of a poly(ether ether keton) (PEEK) surface hydrophilically modified via various protocols was investigated. The use of plasma treatment or chemical etching methods offers a relatively convenient surface modification route. However, the effects of hydrophilic treatment quickly disappeared and its original surface property was recovered within a few hours or a few days when stored at ambient conditions....

Exenatide upregulates gene expression of glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor and nerve growth factor in streptozotocin/nicotinamide‐induced diabetic mice

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Esen Gumuslu, Naci Cine, Merve Ertan, Oguz Mutlu, Ipek Komsuoglu Celikyurt, Guner Ulak

Abstract Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) is an incretin hormone that has modulating effects on insulin release. GLP‐1 and receptors for GLP‐1 are widely expressed throughout the body including the brain. The expression of GLP‐1 receptors is very specific to large neurons in hippocampus, neocortex, and cerebellum. GLP‐1 receptor stimulation enhances glucose‐dependent insulin secretion and lowers blood glucose in type 2 diabetes...

Raman scattering studies of graphene under high pressure

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Denis Machon, Colin Bousige, Rafael Alencar, Abraao Torres‐Dias, Félix Balima, Jimmy Nicolle, Gardênia Sousa Pinheiro, Antonio Gomes Souza Filho, Alfonso San‐Miguel

The effect of pressure – by definition a 3‐dimensional concept – on 2‐dimensional systems brings a number of fundamental questions, which have been partly answered through newly engineered samples and experimental setups. In this review of the high‐pressure Raman studies of graphene, we will in particular underline the importance of the presence of a supporting substrate and its role for the production of biaxial strain conditions in high...

Determination of optimum Al content in HA ‐Al 2 O 3 nanocomposites coatings prepared by electrophoretic deposition on titanium substrate

Published: 20 November 2017

Author(s): Nayereh Askari, Mardali Yousefpour, Masoud Rajabi

Abstract In this research work, Hydroxyapatite (HA)‐Al2O3 bio nanocomposite coatings were coated on titanium substrate by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) and reaction bonding process. The reaction bonding process densifies the coating and creates small uniform porosities. HA‐Al2O3 bio nanocomposite coatings were analyzed by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM). For the coatings sintered for...
